Late night blog

Can't sleep so catch up on blog. Must have been the Americano in the afternoon and the beer later. Doh! I know that stuff is bad for me! Went out for dinner at the local pub (Brewsters) and dared veer off the beer and chicken wings path to sample their more refined cuisine. 'Vermicelli Rice bowl' turned out to be a large clump of flavourless rice noodles concealed by grated (rather than julienned) veggies and sprouts that looked to be at the end of their day. The veggie spring rolls were nice, though deep fried. The meal came complete with a kindof watered down fish sauce and fortune cookie advising me to exercise more. Geez. I know I haven't been getting out much lately, but if only it would stop being winter already. I'm done with that, and no, I don't appreciate snow in April - I've seen enough of it in October thru March. That is a tangent...back to the meal. The other half of the main course was an interesting pasta - which I usually don't order because it's too filling. Anyway, the ravioli was filled with mushrooms, and the sauce (not really sauce but more a bruchetta-like mixture) consisted of diced tomatoes, black olives, baby spinach and parmesan cheese. Altogether a pleasing combination for the pash palate. Surprisingly nice but yes, pasta is filling.

I'm presently more than half way through my second placement - working with preschool children. March-April is the big assessment season, where kids can qualify for early eduction funding through Alberta Learning. It's been a real learning experience, including consulting with parents about what services their child is eligible to access based on the results of their assessment, behavioural management in a big way (eg. 'Don't break my stuff', 'I don't like it when you spit on my chair', 'Give mommy a turn...oh, need help...mommy's turn'). Soem of these youngsters are control freaks and a lot of what I do is give parents strategies to not only elicit language, but to restore behavioural control over their children. I've been writing a gazillion reports, which I wanted more experience in.

I had a job interview last week for the same health authority as above. I told them I'd prefer a school-age position. We'll see what happens...

I really should try to sleep.
