Hello, I'm new, and very interested in learning pashto, because i think it's a beautiful language and I want to travel to afghanistan one day, as well as possibly find a job which requires translation if I ever become good enough. I already speak english and russian, and also want to persue jobs which require english/ russian translation as well ( Read more... )

I dont know much about the demand of being a russian/pashtu and english speakers. but i do know that pashtu is a very difficult language for you to learn. U wont be able to learn it just through the entries being posted here about pashtu. There should be a pathan teacher who guide you to learn and speak the accent of pashtu but no community and nor any websites could help u learn pashtu.

yes, i'm definitely looking for a teacher in person.
Or even some schools which teach it.
I don't do well learning as a beginner from online or through the telephone even...

my question is, where can i find teachers?
there seems to be nothing at all in chicago.

as for as studying, university of pennsylvania is the only school i've heard of that actually has a pashtu language study program--check it out :)

I think Indiana University (at Bloomington) also has a Pashto program in their Central Asian Studies department.
