Singalong 2011

Apr 17, 2011 09:40

The day was grey, cold, wet, and made even worse by intermittent snow and hail and various nasty and lingering coughs and colds.  But inside my folks' place it was warm and cozy, and made cozier still by good food, good songs, and great company.

There was, of course, quite a bit of singing.  Everyone was enthusiastic, and I must say we sounded pretty darn good!

The children were equally game, their participation guaranteed by an assortment of kid-friendly (and not too loud) instruments.  Even in cases where they didn't know the words, there was full audience participation!

Jeff did an awesome job, playing the guitar and singing, and fielding a cacaphony of shouted requests.  Everyone agreed that he just keeps getting better and better.  (I could have told them that!)

Devon when she wasn't singing or eating (where does she put it?) enjoyed playing with a small entourage of adorable little girls:

Tallis was very quiet for the singing, but obviously enjoyed listening, since she kept asking for more songs.  (She did join everyone to sing happy birthday to various members of the family.)  However, the instant Jeff left his seat to take a break and join others at the food table, Tallis took over his seat, and, pretending to read his sheet music, began singing on her own:

Clearly, Tallis enjoys the more intimate, torch song kind or performing. (Jeff had a tough time getting his seat back!)

She eventually showed signs of flagging:

After changing into a nightshirt, however (since she was going to be sleeping over), and lying down briefly in her bed upstairs, she rallied. . .

. . .and got very silly!

She was not the only one being silly:

And it wasn't just the kids being silly, either:

There was a lot of conversation:

And cuteness:

And bonding:

And brotherly love (literal and otherwise):

Thank you, everyone, for helping to make our third annual singalong such a success.   The day heralded spring for us, even if the weather disagreed!
