The average Canadian film makes about $50,000 usually, and Telefilm reports that only ~2% of a Canucks's film's budget is made back through pure box office. Men With Brooms, as the closest equivalent in terms of star power and media buzz (for obvious reasons), made $4.25 million in 6 months, which included a very limited US release.
As another similar comparison, Away From Her, that Sarah Polley film, made $4.25 million but that included a US release, an internationally known lead actress, and Oscar interest. On the other hand, it had a much smaller budget as well and wasn't entirely Canadian (it had a US production company along with Canadian ones).
So yeah, these are pretty respectable figures we are looking at, and the film has successfully avoided 'flop' status. Enough to keep Paul from hunting around for yet another career anyway. But if he is, he would make a great lecturer. Just putting that out into the universe.
