theories of home organization?

I try, but I fail at keeping my clothing organized. I have a fair amount of closet space and a lot of drawers, but every time I try redo my clothing, like after a big laundry day -- the organization deteriorates very quickly ( Read more... )

I would just keep it simple: pants versus dresses/skirts versus blouses versus sweaters, and so on.

There's no "right or wrong" way to organize. Pick the way that instinctively seems right to you.

i would do/have done the same. function, then color. rotating as the seasons change. anything casual that won't wrinkle so much goes in drawers: jeans/casual pants & shorts, printed t-shirts.

In a way, I'm kinda in the same boat as you are.

Small closet shared with Hubster: dresses, good shirts, anything needing to be hung up. Other small closet with out of season hanging stuff plus old Samsonites full of out of season folding stuff (jammies, t-shirts, pants). My only problem is the mound of sloppy work clothes (painting and the like)...have to stash those in drawers under our platform bed.

I wouldn't advise the color sorting thing, but would advise that you stick to a pretty limited palette except for accent pieces.
