Need to laugh?

Three ideas for making yourself smile (at least they make ME smile, and since my humor is exactly like the general populace's..):

1) TVtropes.com

Though you've gotta pick the right categories..a lot of it is not so much funny but..ironic, or even..depressing. Um, yeah. Surf at your own risk.

How about spontaneous, out-of-nowhere kisses? Like ( Read more... )

I like broccoli..but I haven't always- I used to mostly just like it raw with dip. My sister loves it- and she hates all fruits and almost all other vegetables. My mom really likes it too. I always considered the stereotypical hated vegetable to be brussel sprouts- but I suppose broccoli is #2.

Now I think I might have nightmares about that giant bear head. Like...what the hell!? She should do a video on tampon commercials. Now there is some straight up bullshit right there. ;-)

I haven't come across a tampon/pad one (but that would be great), but there's a birth control one making fun of how all the pill commercials talk about having shorter, lighter periods, and nothing about not having a baby. Search "Sarah Haskins" or "Target Women" in youtube and a bunch come up.

I love Sarah Haskins! Was trying to remember her name a while ago but couldn't, thanks for reminding! ;)

Usually I put down my 'absorption' of people and characters as just being inclined toward being a good mimic. heh. Or else, Sam says I do good impressions. So being able to 'take on' another person isn't necessarily a bad thing if you can spit them back out in an amusing way. Otherwise though, it is a bit annoying.

Have you heard of the Tetris Effect? I think that's pretty much what this sort of thing would be categorized under.

No, what's the Tetris effect?

Well, I guess it's sort of like it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetris_effect

Where you do something or watch something just a little too much and it gets stuck in your brain for a while or your reality is more tuned to what you've been doing/watching. I had it once when I intensely watched Stargate late at night and had a really long ocd-ish dream about decoding hieroglyphics and ancient languages.

Okay, I could have guessed that. I've definitely had that..for Tetris itself too :) What do they call it in field work...getting your "search object" or something..actually, I have no idea that's specific to my field, but an old work partner had a term for getting this mental picture of what you're looking for (be it a species of snake, frog, whatever) and focusing your mind on it, so that when you do see the thing it tends to pop out. Guess that's different, but similar in that the mind can be trained and shaped in so many ways- I've found that when I want to find interesting mushrooms in the woods to photograph, I'll start noticing tons of them everywhere I walk.
