Don't buy a house if you're not 100% in love with it. This might be the house your children grow up in and you should never have to "settle" or learn to love it. This is a big step and decision in both your lives so try to be patient. They're hundreds of houses in the area and if you don't like 1 you still have plenty more to choose from.
You know, I always thought I would have that choice when it came to buying my first home... but not in this market. We put more than 30 offers on 30 different houses, and only ONE offer has been accepted. The prices are slowly creeping up. So if I don't jump on one that actually accepts us, then I might not get a house at all.
Plus I have to more-so look at it as an investment. I would have never thought in a million years that prices would be as low as they are right now. Nor would I have thought I would have the opportunity (thank you mom and dad!) to be able to do this at 23. The most important thing is getting a house, whether I live in it or rent the whole thing out. Down the road when I start a family, I can sell it and buy something I really want and this house would provide me with the large down payment I would need.
Annnnndddd... on another side note- We looked at it last night and the back yard wasn't AS small as I thought. It's work-able and has potential. So, I think we'd be happy :)
