Career Change?

I suppose I should give a little background on my previous schooling before getting into this and asking for advice. I decided I wanted to be a nurse 2 years ago. I enrolled in University of Phoenix to get my Associates in Health Care Administration. I knew I'd have to take some science classes at Delta before I could apply for their 2 year nursing ( Read more... )

Is there not another school that will accept your classes? Im suprised you didn't know this before taking classes there.. They should have explained that if they knew you wanted to transfer. Orrr get a job in that field. The school has job placement so they should be able to help you find something. That way at least your getting your moneys worth.

The counselor I spoke to at Univ. of Phoenix told me that my classes would transfer over. However, I should have checked with Delta, which I did not. Instead I took his word for it. The school helping me with job placement has nothing to do with my schooling for nursing. If I switch my career path, getting a job is pointless now. Nursing is way too difficult for someone like me that is in a hurry to make money. On top of that, there aren't many jobs available right now. My cousin just graduated and she has had trouble finding a job because of the economy. No one wants to hire new grads because they have to train them, which costs extra money. There are just so many obstacles in the way of becoming a nurse and I think respiratory therapy is right up my alley anyways. So why not do something that could make me $80,000 a year within 2 years, instead of something that could make me just a little more and would take me 4-5 more years (that's if I got accepted right away... which is unlikely)? What I did at univ. of phoenix will help me ( ... )

There is always a way to work out financing school. Sometimes it takes a bit of research to find out the loop-hole of the program that no one knows about, but there is always a way. Have you looked into financial aid at all? There are various kinds of financial aid and some of it is interest free so any loans you took out would not be accruing interest while in school. A lot of people look down on loans, but I view it as the most important investment you will ever have. Almost everyone takes out a loan for a house and no one thinks twice about it. Why on Earth don't people feel the same about their EDUCATION? It's insane. Whichever way you decide to fund your education, know that it is entirely worth it. It seems like a lot of money to be throwing down, but the return on it will be ten fold ( ... )
