Summary: “You’re really good with Isaac. With the pack,” he mumbled to Stiles as they reached for one another in the dark. “I don’t think I would be able to handle nights like these without you.”
Consciousness didn’t even come until the opposite side of the bed started to fill with a cold that Stiles did not like. It meant that Derek had gotten up. He rubbed at his eyes as his irritation overpowered his need for sleep. The whimpering was so quiet that Stiles almost missed it but when he did hear it over the sound of his movements, he knew that it was Isaac. Again. With a sigh, he dragged himself from the warmth that was Derek’s bed and followed the sound down the hall, until he was next to Derek in the hallway. Right outside of Isaac’s room.
Stiles’ voice was rough with sleep as he asked, “Are you just going to stay there all night or are you going to comfort him or something?” and glared at the Alpha.
“I was waiting on you,” Derek replied as if it should have been obvious. And yeah, maybe it should have been. Stiles was the comforting one in the relationship, oddly enough while Derek was the one who just stood in the corner and glared at everyone - even the ones he loved.
Stiles would have argued with Derek, and he had actually parted his lips to start pushing the words out, but he could hear Isaac’s keens again - the sound growing louder and making Stiles’ chest clench in fear. It always did even though Stiles knew that Isaac wasn’t hurt. It wasn’t really possible for any kind of threat to get inside of a house with not one, but six werewolves and none of them notice it. He shoved Derek out of the way and pushed the door open.
It took a minute for his eyes to adjust to the darkness but when they did, he could see that the youngest Beta was curled up on the floor beside his bed. He must have fallen sometime during his sleep and he’d taken the blankets with him. The second that Stiles processed this, he was by Isaac’s side. His fatherly instincts had kicked in and he hadn’t even thought to be cautious because, hello, Isaac was a werewolf and he was a human. He chastised himself because Isaac’s eyes were flashing in the lightless room as he awoke from whatever nightmare had been plaguing him and he should have waited before coming so close.
But his worrying was pointless. Because Isaac knew it was him. And he knew that Derek wasn’t far behind. He was having a difficult time adjusting to the two of them always taking care of him but he wasn’t going to complain. There was nothing worse than waking up alone and in the dark and he was glad that the pair always came when he cried.
After several minutes of Stiles wiping away tears and hushing Isaac back to sleep, Derek lifted the Beta and placed him back into his bed. He watched in silence as Stiles crawled in beside him before he grabbed the blankets up from the floor and draped them over the pair.
“You’re really good with Isaac. With the pack,” he mumbled to Stiles as they reached for one another in the dark. “I don’t think I would be able to handle nights like these without you.”
“You’re a good Alpha,” Stiles said, an affection tone riding his words out. Using his grasp on Derek’s hand, Stiles pulled him down and found his lips, even without light to guide him. The kiss was brief but it made Derek’s heart stutter in his chest. “Now get in here because if he wakes up in the middle of the night and kills me, I will not hesitate to haunt you.”
Derek chuckled as he eased himself in behind Stiles and crossed his arm over both his mate and Isaac.
