IC INFORMATION
NAME; Naminé
SERIES/FANDOM; Kingdom Hearts
APPEARANCE; Unlike most Kingdom Hearts characters, Naminé's appearance is a simple one. She is a girl of average build with fair skin and blue eyes. She's always seen wearing a white dress that extends to her knees and pale sandals with sunflowers on them. Her hair is long and blond that reaches to the points of her shoulder blades which she always keeps just over her one shoulder. Sorry, no zippers for her.
ABILITIES; The girl's abilities are confusing and the full extent of them are not very well explained in the games. What is known, however, is that Namine has the ability to create, destroy, and change the memories of anyone connected to Sora. She does this by changing the chains connected to certain memories and drawing new ones, placing them where the old ones once were. She has only been shown changing memories pertaining to Sora, Donald, and Goofy, but in the Novel Translations she is shown threatening to change DiZ's memories. This would confirm the idea that she can change anyone's memories so long as they have associated with Sora in some way, but that's pure assumption.
PERSONALITY; Naminé is, at first, rather timid. She's a quiet and shy type of girl, which is strange given that her Other is the bubbly Kairi. Upon first glance, she can seem rather passive; she's just not strong enough to go against people or to talk back to them. Instead, she has a quiet sort of confidence, relying on her kindness and charm to help people rather than coax them to do things. As should be obvious, one of her favorite pasttimes would be to draw but there's never been any point in the games where she hasn't been working instead. She's also taken it upon herself to look after Sora, Riku, and Roxas from afar, even going so far as to try and interfere in order to keep Roxas safe.
The abuse she suffered in Castle Oblivion didn't leave scars so much as it taught her to be more confident and determined in herself, finally becoming braver. Even though she spends her days helping DiZ and letting him tell her what to do, it's rather clear by the end of it that she is strong enough to stand up to him.
She is a smart young woman and emotionally strong, able to stand up for herself, her beliefs, and her friends. Like all Nobodies, one of her strengths is the ability to create Corridors of Darkness in order to transport herself from one location to another. Naminé is physically weak, unfortunately. During her time at Castle Oblivion, she was easily abused by Larxene and Marluxia, thrown around like a little doll. They used this to their advantage in order to manipulate her and use her for their own means. DiZ has done the same, but she's still been capable of rising above it when she's been seen telling him that she will take his memories away if he tries to have her killed (this is a novel translation, but is sometimes considered canon).
HISTORY;
Naminé was born at the same time as Roxas, when Kairi’s heart left Sora and returned to her. It has not yet been revealed how she was found or wher (though some speculate that she was found in Castle Oblivion), but the Organization took her in, probably in The World That Never Was. Eventually, the Oblivion project was created and she was sent there along with a few Organization members, put under Marluxia's care and guidance. There, she was abused by Larxene and Marluxia, the latter especially. Marluxia convinced her to rearrange Sora’s memories and replace Kairi with herself. Vexen used her once in order to rearrange the memories in the Riku Replica so that he believed he was the real Riku, and gave him the fake memories Sora had as well in order to cause tension and keep him as a sort of protector. Eventually, Axel approached Naminé and convinced her to leave Marluxia and undo Sora’s fake memories.
In attempting to do so, Naminé was hurt by Larxene but was saved by Sora, who then defeated the Organization member. She was captured by Marluxia once more and Axel, to get to Marluxia, said he wouldn't mind going through her. Sora arrived and saved her once more. The Riku Replica appeared once more and protected her while Sora took care of Marluxia. Once Marluxia was defeated as well, Naminé promised Sora that she’d fix his memories, and he slept for an entire year. Naminé helped Riku escape Zexion by disguising herself as Kairi, and even offered to seal his darkness away forever. When he refused, she went with DiZ/Ansem the Wise in order to start her work with Sora’s memories. She spent much of her time with the man, but also had an occasional visit from Riku up until Riku’s descent into the darkness in order to bring Roxas back. She helped him in his time of need by providing him company and comfort in knowing that Sora would awaken soon.
Upon Roxas’ entrance into the virtual Twilight Town, she visited him there in an attempt to tell him what he really was. Though revealing some of the truth, Ansem stopped her from revealing more and took her away. DiZ ordered Riku to dispose of her but he let her go, giving her over to Axel. She left and was not seen for much of the game, only surfacing once more in order to help Kairi escape from her prison cell. She led her out, only to be caught by Saix, but saved by Riku. She created a portal as an escape for the others at the end, and reunited with Kairi to become whole. The ending of the game implies that both she and Roxas are conscious even back with their Others, happy and safe.
SAMPLE
Blue was a beautiful color for Sora. It was the color of pieces of his outfit. It was the color of his eyes. And it was the color of the sea beside him as she drew him this afternoon, as the sun began to sink below the trees. Enclosed in her little white room, surrounded by her drawings…it was peaceful here, enjoyable. And today she was finishing another memory for the sleeping boy, a memory that had taken her all day to draw. She had finished the sea, the sand, Riku, and Kairi first, and was just putting on the finishing touches of the keybearer between them. She smiled brightly, proud of her work.
There was a soft knock at the door and her eyes lifted ever so slightly from her drawing. She returned to her work and softly called, “Come in,” to the person behind the door. The white door opened, and she could hear soft footsteps enter the room. She didn’t need to look up. She knew who it was.
“Naminé,” he called, his voice different…but she knew his real voice and only heard what he once sounded like. “Naminé, it’s late. You should stop for the day.”
She continued shading in Sora’s eyes, their deep blue penetrating her. “I’m almost finished,” she said. “It’s taken me a good while, but this one is almost finished.” She could hear him approach her from the side, look over her shoulder. Her blue eyes met his hooded face. “Does that look right, Riku?”
He chuckled lightly. “Yeah, that’s it. I remember that day. Sora told Kairi and I that he could swim farther than us. He almost did, too, but he got himself so worked up before he started that I was able to swim just a bit further.” She could feel the smile in his voice, though she couldn’t see it. “I remember.” He had been losing memories too as Sora's were being rearranged. He had suffered too.
Naminé’s eyes fell back down to her work, and she put the finishing touches of Sora’s hair before standing and picking up the drawing. She put it over in her pile, smiling lightly. “Well, I’m almost done. Shouldn’t be too long.”
“I hope not. It’s almost been a year…” Riku murmured, and then turned to the door as DiZ walked in. He always seemed to know before the man came into a room. It unnerved her sometimes. “Well?” he asked.
DiZ chuckled. “Everything went according to plan, don’t worry. Roxas is safe in his little world, where he’ll stay until we are finished.” He nodded towards the door. “Come, I’ll show you.” Riku glanced back at her once before following DiZ out the door like a servant boy.
Naminé started to follow, but looked back once at the drawing she had made of Sora in his sleeping state. She smiled. “Soon, Sora…soon, you’ll awaken. And I promise, everything will be the way it should be.” And she left the room, leaving the door open, as though wanting the picture to see everything beyond the sanctuary of the white room.
