I am in Orange County. My wife is in China. My younger son is holding it down back on the Jersey Shore. They just lost power. My home has apparently become a shelter for Young People with Pets. God bless them all.
We bugged out to Riverton. All well, no loss of power here. The house and restaurant are both undamaged, except for some missing shingles. Bistro is on the second floor, so I was always confident about that. The first floor shops all had between 3 and 5 feet. We feel incredibly blessed. That is unprecedented. The reports I've been getting are that, while clean up progress has already been made, the pictures don't do justice to the scale of the devastation. The biggest problem is the near total loss of the dune system, the Island is now prey to every winter storm. That is very ominous indeed. They are evacuating any non essential residents today, then no one will be allowed back on for at least 7, probably 10 days. Prayers are welcome.
I live in Highlands, which is decimated. I am flying from Orange County to Seattle today -- but am trying to get some reports from church folk in between taking care of work and a scattered family.
