At our monthly men's breakfast this morning, we shared a lot of pain.  Guys are suffering from deteriorating health, from the loss of loved ones, and from relationships gone terribly awry.  I am sorry that we are going through this -- but I am also glad that we have a place where we can share our difficulties with frankness, love and humor ( Read more... )

I'm sure there are some guides out there for this kind of thing. There are probably a couple of things you need to do as facilitator. One is to set some ground rules. For example, you may want to let the participants know that we don't respond to each other's pain with advice -- or that we don't debate medical topics at the group level. I'm not sure exactly what kind of ground rules you need to set for this type of group, but it's good for the facilitator to give participants a sense that there are rules that make it a safe space and that the faciltator will enforce these rules ( ... )
