Lately, I've been wondering where have all the good fanfic writers have gone.  Especially a few nights ago when I was nosing about at ff.net., and all I encountered was page after page of garbage.  I have some really nice stories saved but, there hasn't been updates in quite some time and it makes me quite sad.  Now I'm far from being the world's ( Read more... )

fanfiction, pet peeves

I have to admit to getting it's and its mixed up occasionally ^^; But I can agree with you on the rest, especially the japanese one, oh God why? Certain words to describe japanese items I can get but anything else is just wrong.

It's not a problem if it's occasionally. We all make mistakes, but there are plenty of writers who fuck up consistently and all throughout their story. Now it's just become annoying.

I think I should have made the Gratuitous Japanese my #1 pet peeve. I didn't realize just how much that one bothered me until I was reading a story that had that business littered all throughout. I clocked her for it too in my review. Unless you are fluent in the language and that is the main reading audience, leave it alone.

Holding a fic hostage for review

I never, ever understood that. I've heard of writers saying they will refuse to update if they don't get x number of comments or whatever and I would just love to punch them right in the throat. That is fucking ridiculous.

I'm a selfish ho about my fic. I write it for me. If people like it, great. If they don't, no great loss. Some of my favorite stories, most truthfully, have next to no reviews. But it just doesn't matter to me.

I just don't get it. *shrugs*

Fuck, that came out all wrong (the post that I just deleted). Total word to everything you said. I have some stories faved that only have 10 reviews, at best, and they're multi-chaptered.

Your stories are love, with a healthy dose of smut (not complaining!). A.S.S. was the reason why I decided to stalk you on here.

LOL it's okay, you're getting senile. I understand.

*pets... hand* >.>

And thank you, dear. That makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

Senile? Behave or my girls will stay covered up the whole time at AWA, and I don't care how much booze you feed me.

And I don't think that's my *hand* that you were trying to *pet*.

I agree with almost all of it, except the character bashing, I have a soft spot for those.

I'm with ya on all of these. It annoys me greatly when fangirls toss in random Japanese in an English written story. I don't care if it's like one word, but I feel like telling these girls that knowing Japanese (or fangirl!Japanese) does not make one cool. Want to be cool? Learn hieroglyphics. Then I'll call you cool mama.

Thank you! It doesn't make them look cool, it makes them look very foolish. Unless your story is for the Japanese reading audience, keep it in English and leave the Japanese to those that know more than the few phrases they've picked up from manga.

I don't mind a little bit of OOC, hell I OOC the hell out of my parodies and crackfic, but that's on purpose. I even don't mind OCs. Only ONE author in the history of writing can write a story with her Mary Sue in it and I'll read it and squee over.

Why? Because she makes the MS look just like her (she's in her 40/50s and is fluffy), she focuses mostly on the main real characters than her MS, and because she can actually write very well (and well in this fandom, one's allowed to do OOC).

YOU FORGOT MPREG. *makes face* Not that I'm judgmental or whatever, but mpreg is not a kink of mine.

But I love me some Doctor Who crossovers. XD The wonderful thing about DW fandom is that basically any other fandom you write crossover for, it could actually be construed as canon. If you wanted to go in that direction instead of making it total crack.

But ff.net has never had good quality fic, and I've played in and read fic for lots of fandoms. You might check out AO3 (archiveofourown.org), I've read some pretty amazing fics over there. But my fandoms are mostly book fandoms, not anime, so YMMV.

Ugh,MPREG...just no. So wrong on so many levels that I can't even properly comment on it. Needless to say, if I see MPREG in the summary, I automatically bypass.

There's only a handful of writers off ff.net that I have saved because they actually told decent stories that weren't off the wall and had good amounts of drama, humor, angst, sex and everything else in between. Who knows? Maybe I'm just a picky bitch.
