I have a 20d with a macro lens I take on trips, with that being said, I am also buying a ultra compact high MP in the next day or two to be able to take with me climbing, on weekends and parties..

so ideally, Id get both..

I really like the Powershot I bought Ryan for his b-day last year. It takes nice photos but is small and easy to take places. It is far more convenient than my camera.

For you guys being on the go so much, I would go that route first, then down the road you could get a second camera that takes lenses and such.

well we already have a powershot, it just has some strange behavior that makes me think the firmware is starting to go.
I actually decided to go with the rebel. I just need to find a reputable place that has them for a good price.
What kind of camera do you have? I found a very interesting deal on ebay. It's the older Rebel model with only 6.3MP instead of 8MP that the new ones have. But it comes with 18-55mm lense, macro lenses, Tele-Converter lense, 300 power lense, and a tripod.

My camera is a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ5. I love it, but it is not handy for traveling and such. I would not take it a lot of places. We take Ryan's camera if we are out being active.

I was totally anal about tripods...and I got a really good one. I shopped around a lot.

That deal is a rip-off. Trust me I know. The kit lens ain't bad, but the reset of it is ultra shit quality. It's like throwing your money away.

I have both. A big 10D digital SLR which I LOVE. and my recent edition of the Canon Powershot S80 which I also love. Know why I got the 2nd one? Because the first one is a pain in the butt to carry for everyday shots.
