New Rebel XT is nice. I didn't realize you were that interested in photography. I'm assuming that you're getting it so you can do controlled f-stop/shutter speed/AE bracketing/and selective metering using Canon's Digic II image processor. Are you getting the kit lens 18-55mm EF-S? It's a good buy for the price.

Having held the Rebel XT it's certainly lighter than my 10D camera. However, it's not fun to hike with and very bulky in your backpack.

Have fun and good luck.

well I love to photograph, but when I do get a good photo its really because of chance. I would like to be able to control more of the variables surrounding a shot. And anyway I want a new toy to play with ;)

The camera does come with the kit and so for $600 I think its a really good deal since I would be paying $400 for the PowerShot.

I agree with you in hoping he's not a scammer. Ick...

If it doesn't work out, Pro Photo Supply in NW Portland (NW Marshal and 19th) often has used digital SLRs and lenses. They do a good check on all the equipment too so they can definitely be trusted.

The digital rebel is very fun to play with and use, though zind4gi is right in saying that it's bulky when hiking, especially if you start acquiring lenses. Good luck! :-)
