Firefox

I'm having problems with Firefox; it's been telling me "not responding" when I start it up, eventually it gets started but I was having to wait for it for ages, so I tried reinstalling it. The not responding has improved but isn't completely cured, and I am not enjoying this new version! It told me that my Realplayer plugin wasn't compatible with ( Read more... )

have you checked the add-ons in the tools menu ? maybe you've got a rogue add-on that is doing bad things ?

Try removing any add-on that you don't know what it does (you could remove them all as they aren't required for firefox to work and easily re-installed if they're required).

Mind if I list what I've got? I don't know that I'd recognise a rogue add-on! These are the extensions:

AVG Safesearch, Google Toolbar for Firefox, IE Tab, Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant, Realplayer Browser Record Plugin (which is greyed out and says not compatible with Firefox 3.5.3)

And the plugins:

Adobe Acrobat, BBC iPlayer Plugin, Entriq Download Manager Mozilla Plugin, IE tab plug-in, iTunes Application Detector, Java Deployment Toolkit 6.0.150.3, Java Platform SE 6 U12, Java Platform SE 6 U15, Microsoft Windows Media Player Firefox Plugin, Mozilla Default Plug-in, Napster Link, npruntime Entriq Version Check Plugin, Quicktime Plug-in 7.6.4, RealJukebox NS Plugin, RealPlayer Version Plugin, RealPlayer G2 Liveconnect-Enabled Plug-in, Shockwave Flash, Silverlight Plug-in, Windows Presentation Foundation.

Does anything stand out? If not, I'll proceed to removing them (which kinda makes me nervous!)

The Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant has been in the news recently for having bugs in which could be a security/stability problem, but I don't think that's the cause of your problem. My brother is experiencing something incredibly similar to you on his mac.

I had a dialogue box come up and tell me this so I disabled it and that seems to have made a difference! Yay! I'll hold off on removing anything else while I see how it goes.

...What could be making my computer slow to start up?

When Firefox 3.5 came out I installed it and it kept crashing so I've reverted to an older version. Which version are you using?

Version 3.5.3. How do you revert to an older version?

You have to download it but I wouldn't recommend it; I'm sure they've ironed out the bugs by now. it was 3.5.0 obviously that was dodgy.

But my realplayer plugin is no longer compatible and I've got that annoying bubble thing! I seem to have swapped one set of problems for another, I only wanted it to stop hanging :(
