Last night, I found out that my mum's adopted! I was discussing with my dad my worries about all the pregnancy problems on my mum's side of the family and whether I might have problems in future. My dad looked uncomfortable for a minute, then handed me the adoption certificate. Bit of a shock as I always thought my family and I had a pretty open

Gosh, parents do seem to have a marvellous knack for that sort of thing, my mum occasionally comes out with something like 'after your brother and sister's father left me, the Vicar kept 'popping round' and I didnt want to see him so I hid. Apparently he came to the conclusion that I was having an affair and told everyone this. So I thought 'sod it' and had one.' Obviously this is a rather bigger deal, but yeah, I'd try and store up some similar things to casually drop into the conversation with Jasmine when she's older but I don't really have a terribly exciting past, and well, she knows my friends now ;)

My dad was adopted. He was rather kindly told aged 30 when his "mum" died (i remember this, i was 4-5 at the time, so not particularly attentive). I discovered he had 4 half-siblings he never knew about, and rather cruely has never been told who his real father is. Handled it all rather well tho.

After my gran died three years ago, my mum found out that her parents hadn't been married when she was born, that her father was married to someone else at the time, and that she had a half-brother.

Yay for catlovers. I have dog-phobia, which is mostly ok as most of the pets on my estate are cats, but there are two families that have dogs. One of them very nearly attacked me yesterday! It bounded right upto me, barking like mad. *shudder* I'm like Bill Bryson: dogs just hate me (no love lost there then!)
