this is a thought about music in general. drums vs. no drums. both tend to form a completely different sound... i know this is obvious, but think about it. listen to one song without drums and another song that has drums. then listen to more of each. is there a correlation?
I just think it depends on the complexity of the song and what the artist is going for. I think that drums would take away from this particular song, as well as a number of others. I love Kevin Devine's music, and I'm not sure if any of his songs contain drums, but I like that about his music.
I saw Jesse Lacey (from Brand New) play a completely acoustic show with Kevin Devine this summer. I could have never imagined Brand New songs without drums, but it made for such a perfect show.
