002 - BACKDATED TO JUST BEFORE THE FLOOD (VIDEO)

Aug 14, 2010 01:17

[When the camera flickers on, instead of getting a fabulously framed shot of a random Inmate/Warden, you get a close-up of what appears to be wood-grain. In the background, there's a series of loud bangs, followed by some gravelly voice mumbling something vague in Russian. The screen twists around, and OH THERE WE GO! It's Mikhail ( Read more... )

speaking russian like a boss, this is my polite face, stirring like a stubbly ukrainian witch, 90% of this is true, pretending he doesn't hate people, patchy sometimes forgets his 'a's

Inmates are here to be changed. Once your life is taken, you lose everything you had but yourself - the things that define you. The things you are familiar with and can rely on, because no matter what else changes, they are who you are.

We are delivered here so this can be taken too, and we can be molded into something more acceptable. Presumably, we then arrive in Hell as strangers.

[...why does he have to check his posts late? :/]

...Welcome to the barge.

And you are certain we aren't already there? [Pause.] In Hell, I mean?

If this is hell, I am severely unimpressed.

The only thing that separates a warden from an inmate is circumstance. Many are worse than we are, as I'm sure you've noticed. They can be prone to threats and violence and come away with no consequence. Why? Either because they haven't died yet, or because they were fortunate enough to have been given the opportunity to strike a deal with the Admiral.

Ask any inmate here: none of us were even given the choice. We never made any deals. They have.

[You've said all the right things, dude. If you are videoing it up, you get some sweetass Mikhail the nodding dog action. After a brief pause in which he (FAIRLY SUBTLY) glances off-screen to check his barge stalker notes:]

...Major Henry West, yes?

Correct. How do you do? [Pause] Aside from the obvious, of course.

[He waves his hand dismissively.]

I'm fine. This... vessel, however, takes a little getting used to.

[A beat.]

You were in the army?

The difference between inmates and wardens? They got to make their little deal, so they think they're better than us. Therefore, we don't matter.

[You get a long pause and the one-eyed squint.]

...I remember you from the flood. [Frown.] Perhaps not you, specifically, but a version of you.

[...AND THEN HE REALIZES HE DOESN'T ACTUALLY WANT TO HAVE THAT CONVO, SO:]

How long have you been here now?
