Thanksgiving

Was hollow. Everyone was depressed, quiet, not much laughter, everything tasted bland. I miss Mom, we all missed Mom. It's never going to be the same anymore. We sat down, tried to pray, but we all cried even my uncle who's a Methodist minister just burst into tears in the middle of his prepared prayer. I know exactly how it feels when a family member who "ties everyone together" passes on, and the resulting drifting apart.

This has happened a couple of times in my family so it's very vivid.

Thanksgiving was never a big holiday for us, but the first Christmas after my father died, me and my mom just... left. We went up to New York for the holiday, because we knew Christmas would just be us staring at my father's mother and... being awkward.

At least with my family, starting a discussion about an issue like that can lead to an avalanche as people's feelings come out. Sounds like you may have tried to trigger that already...but keep trying. *noses*
