Disclaimer: although disclaimers mean little to nothing legally, i'd like to state that i own nothing here, nor do i believe that any of this actually happened
Author's Note: well would you check it out it's harry styles' birthday. happy birthday, kiddo. also i feel like the narration's probably a bit awkward because i kind of attempted to make it more kid-ish, but then i kind of gave up a bit so... yeah... also titles why are you titles i am so bad at you
Harry’s fifth birthday is on a Wednesday, and his mom makes him go to school anyways because she hates him (Harry’s sure of it). It’s totally lame and Harry just wants to hang out and eat ice cream all day because it’s his birthday, and as far as Harry’s concerned the only good thing about life is that it’s really warm for February and after lunch the teachers give up on teaching and let them play outside for the rest of the day.
That’s when Harry meets Liam. Harry’s still sulking more than a little bit and Liam, well. Liam’s just sitting on a bench reading and that’s probably the weirdest thing Harry’s ever seen.
Liam has too much hair that hangs into his face and big eyes and a weird brown spot on his neck. He kind of reminds Harry of his dog, and Harry tells him as much. Liam blinks a few times, too-big eyes a mixture of confusion and amusement. “Woof?”
“Woof,” Harry agrees, leaning close and licking Liam’s cheek.
“Ew,” Liam says, but he’s grinning wide enough that Harry can count his one two three missing teeth. Harry grins back.
The more time Harry spends with Liam, the more he realizes that Liam is actually kind of cool. Liam can do a perfect Kermit impersonation, which is awesome, but he insists that Harry's Miss Piggy, which is not so awesome.
"It's cause you're the pretty one," he says, and Harry's still not sure he's should be happy about that.
"Miss Piggy's not very pretty, and I'm not pretty either," Harry says, jutting out his chin. "I'm a boy.”
Liam shrugs. "Kermit thinks Miss Piggy's pretty. Even if nobody else does." Harry thinks that shouldn't make him blush as much as it does.
Liam is funny and smart and he’s in the year up. He laughs at all of Harry’s jokes and doesn't complain when Harry makes him push him on the swings and Harry is pretty sure they’re gonna get married someday.
“Well duh,” Liam says, rolling his eyes and clutching Harry’s hand in his. He kisses Harry firmly on the cheek, all the confirmation either of them needs.
Harry thinks it’s probably the best birthday he’s ever had.
