Music folk:

I am unable to stop downloading, playing and singing along to semi-alt-country narrative ballads (and crying!). Lucinda Williams' "Jackson," Vicki Lawrence's "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia," Neko Case's "Like We've Never Met," and Kenny Roger's "Coward of the County," for example. I need more! Can you help?

Thanks.

Emmylou Harris-"Better off Without You"
Ani DiFranco-Almost anything from "Dilate"

Mmm, poetic tragedy. Is there any other kind?

Thank you for the songs! And yesterday was great. It was also great when, you know, I stopped crying. I'll be back for sure!!

Can you stand a few more suggestions? Hope so, because I have several.

For starters, anything by Emmylou Harris, including but not limited to:

Wayfaring Stranger
If I Could Only Win Your Love
Boulder to Birmingham
Bluebird Wine

Her CD The Ballad of Sally Rose, compiled with Linda Ronstadt and Dolly Parton, is superb. These cuts are among my favorites:

White Line
KSOS
Diamond in my Crown
Timberline
Heart to Heart
Swing Low Sweet Chariot (utterly gorgeous--I've had this CD for ten years and this song still gives me chills)

Carlene Carter's CD Musical Shapes is likewise terrific. You may enjoy:

Baby Ride Easy
Ring of Fire (her version is my favorite)
Too Drunk to Remember
Madness
Foggy Mountain Top

Her CD Blue Nun is more mixed in terms of quality (and it's also out of print), but it has a number of great cuts, including Do Me Lover and Too Many Teardrops.

I saw Carlene at the Great American Music Hall in 1995. Best live performance I've ever seen.

Hang in there! Almost done.

Roseanne Cash's Seven Year Ache is very good, ( ... )

Oh oh oh! While you're at it, grab Dolly's Why'd You Come in Here Looking Like That? Any song with repeated references to "painted-on jeans" deserves many listenings and loud applause.

Nice to see you too--friending you back.
