Progressive Revelation and Grace

"Progressive Revelation" is one of those concepts I don't believe I ever heard until I became a member of a Reformed Church. However, I think most Christians probably believe it, to at least some extent, even if they don't ever use the term or talk about it. So does 'Progressive Revelation' only refer to the way the Bible itself expands as you progress in the book or does it apply to the church that came after as well? Was the Reformation an example of progressive revelation?

So I've heard differing view points on this. I think most people tend to think of it as relating to the Bible, but I have heard some people talk about it going beyond this. You could probably categorize the views like this:

View 1: Progressive revelation ends with the New Testament. There's nothing more we know now (as far as the revealed word of God) than the apostles did by the end of the first century.

View 2: Special revelation ends with the New Testament, but our understanding of how it all fits together has progressed (e.g., the Trinity, the Reformation, etc.)

View 3: Special revelation continues after the New Testament. Either via modern prophets (e.g., some forms of pentacostalism) or via Church Infallibility (e.g., Roman Catholicism ( ... )
