So here's a random one to think about;
Oh look, a cut. that means there's rambling, are you surprised?
Today's topic is unusual skills or talents. We have our hobbies and things we like to do generally. I know a few of you indulge in media ( Novels, Anime, or games ) while others like to pursue other endeavours, like creative things. I find that I tend to be a bit of a dabbler in a lot of the arts, but I say arts rather loosely. Drawing for example, I've looked up some basic guides, I've got my own method of creation when pen meets paper. Nothing spectacular, nor do I try to present it as such. But anyone can doodle, it's not an unusual skill.
So what unusual skills do I have? Well for one I think lock-picking is right up there. The mechanics of how it works, how there are different types, some which are easy to bypass and others I'm yet to work out makes this an unusual skill that I have. I'm not professionally trained, and I don't even have the proper tools that any other lock pick artist would have in their arsenal but I do admire it as some kind of 'Fine art of tinkering' there is just something about feeling through a lock until you get that nice click to say it's unique defence has been bypassed. I treat it like hacking, the ability to ignore security for the sake of exposing the weaknesses in said security.
Of course I have no real world use for this skill. being able to open my desk drawer or mailbox without the key is pointless, I still have the keys. But it does highlight that like many forms of security, they can be defeated. Destructive measures would be quicker or easier but like a fine hand-crafted work, there is this human element of beauty in the clutter rather than simply getting machine perfect results.
I note that another unusual skill, at least among my peers, is that I'm a very good researcher. Others employ that skill to be able to find information, it's kind of something I pride myself on being able to do. So of course the question turns to you, My highly regarded readers, What unusual skills do you have? Is it a natural talent or gift, do you hate that you can do it? do you do it actively or just on the side when nothing else is happening?
What do you do in your free time?
