Gyrocopters are amazingly easy to learn to fly, but they also hold one of the worst safety records in aviation. Unfortunately, they are even less safe than single-engine helicopters, which hold the worst safety record in certified aviation (largely because of the sports star/nouveau riche profile of a typical owner/pilot).
The problem with gyrocopters stem from some stability problems inherent in rotor configuration, and in the fact that they are too easy to fly. Beginner pilots soon start "pushing the envelope" and discover that, when exposed to negative G forces, rotorcraft usually crash.
Still, when the pilot is well aware of the limitations, gyroplane is great fun and a fantastic introduction to personal flight. Best of luck if you decide to get your licence!
