A great start to the day!

Apr 27, 2010 09:45

What a way to start the day! I was on I-35, on schedule to be in the office by 8 for an 8:30 meeting, and someone crashes into the back of my car! I had slowed quickly because the car in front of me slowed quickly -- you know the kind of thing. We pulled off to the side, took a look, just paint chips on the flexible bumpers (both cars are Civics ( Read more... )

1) I am, and every day as I come past your apartment complex I think "I should call her...!" So I'll try to remember to do it tonight. I've been so broke I've essentially not been going anywhere except work and back, so I'd have enough gas to get to work...

2) No, but I got a better contract company and a new contract (It has taken until April 21 to get all of my Feb and March paychecks to me, and the bank has put holds on them every time because they are hand-written). this contract is with the Texas Employees Retirement System amd is really cool. Writing the missing parts (75%) of the InfoSec Manual.

Good to hear about the claim status. I'll call the other insurance folks this afternoon.

Boy, me, too! My health insurance doesn't kick in until June! (No, not from the employer, but I have had to buy my own policy.) I do feel a little like my eyeballs went rolling around, tho!

He seemed like a nice enough guy, as did the cops. So all will probably be well.

I have worse scrapes on my bumper from shopping carts....

I might as well not put in a claim unless forced to by Texas law.

Isn't it legally his fault, for following too closely?

Who knows? The cops didn't give us tickets, which says to me that it's likely a no-fault situation. They didn't even take our license numbers.

Your insurance company might be able to tell you.

I called and left a message. Since it was before 6 am their time when it happened, I didn't expect anyone to be there.

Either for good or ill, we're both covered by the same company.

I'm glad you're ok.

I don't know what TX law has to say about this, but since it is clearly his fault you might be able to file a claim against his insurance company. Or, failing that, you might eventually get your deductible back if you file with yours (when they collect); you could ask them. I was once in a similar accident (car in front of me stopped, I stopped, the three cars behind me did not under their own power). Because it was a four-car accident it took quite some time for me to get my money, but I eventually did. And I didn't have a police report either. But every place is different, so YMMV (so to speak).

Both being insured with the same company does add an interesting wrinkle, though...

As I said to Carole, we've been playing phone tag. I'll see what happens tomorrow.

Best news of all: I figured out, with the help of an extremely diligent help desk person who was willing to escalate and let me stay on hold, why my mortgage payments haven't been being deducted from my payment account. So they won't foreclose on us. As my Buddhist cube mate says, each challenge will fall before a continued confident step forward.

One by one, things are getting back into sync. (Isn't it wonderful to be able to say that?)
