Halooo Lj Elves! Apologies for my rather prolonged absence from lj, but I have been a tad busy of late. I have finally moved house, from darkest Kilburn to hippest Islington! Well done on mastering flat packs. I always seem to have odd screws and nails left at the end and a lingering feeling it's all going to collapse horridly at some point. (There's a reason most of my furniture is scavenged from auctions - besides my obsession with solid wood).

I'm conflicted. On the one hand, there is the drama of the US version and its sheer, cut-throat showmanship. On the other hand, there is the style and substance of the UK version, with its emphasis on teaching the celebrities to dance as opposed to teaching them to the dance. In the US show, they have a lot of very flashy, very mediocre pros, whose backgrounds are not necessarily in ballroom or latin (which shows). In the UK show, they have a lot of very skilled technical dancers, whose backgrounds do not always seem to lend themselves to innovation or dramatic performance. You would never have got that amazing futuristic Paso in the UK version, for instance ( ... )
