I just watched the official announcement live. I wasn't impressed. Looked her up and her only government experience is very little time in city council, as mayor, and now as governor of Alaska - a position she's held for less than two years. She's the mother of 5, the youngest of whom was just born in April with Downs Syndrome.
The health condition of her son itself isn't a concern, but how does the Vice President of the US handle foreign affairs and take care of a household with a disabled newborn? She has no government experience - less than what McCain makes fun of Obama for apparently not having.
AND - she started out her speech with "I never planned to become involved in public affairs," and then went on to talk about how she fights corruption, the boy's club mentality, etc. Her voice was not at all convincing.
He could have done so much better and still found a woman candidate. But, I agree, it'll be interesting to see what happens now.
