So I went to a WW2 reenactment with the Grossdeutschland division of reenactors.
Some great pix even if I didn't make it into any.  Take a look.

Also, I attempted to use the cut feature.  I hope it worked.  If not, I'm not putting the pictures back in for a third time.  Sorry.

So, WWII? Who are you reenacting? Are you Americans? Why WWII? Wasn't that traumatic enough the first time?

Yeah, ww2. I am reenacting the German division of Grossdeutschland. They were the equiv. of the American marines during ww2 for Germany. They served with a great amount of pride for their country, not necessarily the skewed political view of Hitler, as many of them were taken from Austria and other surrounding areas without consent of their political view ( ... )

People forget that even though they were our "enemies" they were still people. This bias still exists in the current war.

Yeah, it's kind of hard to forget when I lost most of my family along with millions of my people. And there is a saying in the Jewish community about the Shoah "never forget"

I guess we can all agree that war sucks on all sides then. Every army is atrocious. They exist to commit enough atrocity to change the tide of thought, politics or other goals through descruction and show of force. That is their purpose. There is no "good" army and "bad" army ( ... )

I suppose my statement was too general, and I apologize. I referred to those who DID NOT committ mass genocide. Those who were handed a gun and told that they had to shoot their fellow man in order to defend their home. History should never be forgotten, because it is doomed to repeat, but it is unfair to despise an entire people for the acts of a relative few evil individuals.
Please accept my most heartfelt sympathies for your and your family's loss.
