The it did't seem like a big deal thing is interesting, because all of my life I've heard people say that even if you dated the person forever and probably lived with them for a good chunk of that time it's completely different once it's legalized. I've never thought to ask Tommy, so I won't speak for him, but to me it's not different at all. I always thought I was completely capable of being committed without the nod of a government and/or church, and it seems to be true. The only difference it makes, in my mind, is that I'll not be sitting in a hospital holding his hand, and not allowed to speak for him when he can't speak for himself. Neither will he be i that situation with me, which is probably more important given my schizophrenic sister's extreme antipathy toward me.
