my dad had a near death experience: after heart surgery in '91 he was dead for 18 mins (12mins is stone cold dead. like, not coming back we wont resusitate stone cold, so its amazing but not as uncommon as one would think). it was pretty full on. he came back a changed man, but not in a religious way.

Has it made you rethink your stance on organised religion? Or just on your own life?

Made me rethink my stance?

I haven't nothing against organised religion. It does wonders for some people and can be a really source of inspiration. It's the people who are apart of them that concerns me ;)

I'm not saying you were against them at all, I'm just asking whether the talk had changed your stance, whatever it may have been before...

For me, one of the biggest traps is about people being too attached to their own personal salvation, or absolution, or the need to have a self-deceptive feeling of spiritual superiority--sadly the 'moral high ground'. For me, one aspect of spirituality is selfless service and constant effort--completely immaterial of any reward, be it fame, monetary or even in a future existence. That level of sincerity is what I feel will make the World a better place.

Maybe it's because I feel that way that I'm so "bad". :D

Don't let anything like that get you down, Pat. And let's be grateful that a competent individual like yourself is entering the field.

She repeatedly said that need to find Jesus to be 'saved'. This woman standing there telling me my only hope was to find Jesus. I really found that quite weak to be honest.

This didn't get me down mate, it actually made me feel a lot better. Like someone coming up to me and knocking me on the head and saying, 'OI, get it together dude!'

I can hit you in the head. In fact... If memory serves, I've hit you in the head and face at least a handful of times... Sometimes with hands and feet, sometimes with rocks and spoons...
