There's something today that struck me as very odd - and I'm far from the first person to comment on this. Kevin Rudd's last press conference showed more of a human being than just about any public appearance since he assumed office

I agree with you about the presentation of flaws in the plans. The unwillingness of politicians to discuss the detail of their plans and the complexity of the issues is one of my biggest regrets in Australian politics

Look at the how the media has shaped what passes for political discourse.
The mask exists because anything a politician says can be taken and used out of context as a stick to thwack them with. They're pretty much stuck in -- as Ella so eloquently puts it -- "Job Interview mode" 24x7
The media feeds us conflict, drama and tawdry theatrics because it sells.
Sadly, I don't have an answer ... I'm hoping the disintermediating effect of the internet will help, but it may just accelerate the race to the bottom :-/
I must admit, I'm liking the "Keep Calm and Carry On" tone that our new PM is projecting so far ...
I quite liked when Gillard told O'Brian that there would be an election this year and that therefore his Christmas leave was not in doubt.
On other fronts you mentioned the DLP the other day but then we got distracted by rehearsal. Then today at Oakleigh Station I saw John Mulholland himself. Feel free to resume the topic at any time.
Also - regarding the Polish Presidential Elections - I've looked at the parties of the two contenders and, really, what would Poles of my political persuasion do? Take full advantage of voluntary voting!
You, on the other hand, I expect, would have a lovely time choosing between the one you are closer to politically and the one you are closer to genetically! (-8}
"What would Poles of my political persuasion do?" - well, I guess it's just not surprising that your set of political views have been produced in Australia rather than in Poland. Poland just has a different history, and a different set of concerns.
And yes, I'd love to resume talking about the DLP!
