We got kolaches at Czech Stop, my mother and I, driving from Dallas to Austin for my freshman orientation in 1991. I only stopped in West a time or two on the million times I did that drive. I have a nice picture from some place in West frozen in another era with its wood paneling and ancient Dr. Pepper machine.

I was really surprised to see that the Czech Stop has been in business for about 30 years. For some reason, I figured the place was only about 15 years old. And now it has been immortalized beyond the Texas border. Anderson Cooper even mentioned it several times on CNN.

An article last year in Texas Monthly estimated that they sell something like 25,000 dozen (!) kolaches a month! Lordy.
