Happy Virginia Thanksgiving!

Down here in Virginia, you can easily find someone who will tell you that the "first" Thanksgiving didn't occur in the Plymouth rock vicinity.  It took place in an area a few miles away from Williamsburg along the James River, near what is now Berkeley Plantation.

Well shit. That would have saved me a lot of field trips to Plymouth Plantation when i was a kid.

But then you might be going to Williamsburg, and there are definite downsides. Think morbidly obese people in fanny packs and tri-corn hats with the smell of horse manure everywhere, and 3-hour presentations on how to make a beeswax candle. I used to be a reporter about 30 miles from this town, and people in the area drink heavily. And it's not happy drunkening. It's angry, sad drunkening.

Of course there are upsides too. Nice architecture. Great barbecue. And the angry, sad drunkening I mentioned before.
