For those who know me well, you will know that I am heavily into music. Can't play an instrument to save myself, although I used to be very good at playing the penis. There are some who know me that may equate 'heavily' with 'obsessed'. It's probably true, it is my biggest passion in life ( Read more... )

The sampling rate doesn't have anything to do with dynamic range. It's the bit depth eg 24 bit vs 16 bit, that determines the dynamic range. Sampling rate determines the Nyquist Frequency - the highest frequency that can be reproduced, which is half the sampling rate (hence 44khz, as it's a bit more than double the highest frequency humans can hear).
Second: ever opened up a hard drive? What's inside? a spinning platter, a bit like ah… a cd.

sounds like you know what your talking about Paul. Can you help me fix the cassette door on my walkman ? it wont stay shut and i have to use insulation tape or a rubber band to play my "tapes". Any advice would be appreciated ....JJ

Well, Jess, the first thing I'd be doing is putting a little bit of tape over each of those square holes you see on the top edge of your cassettes. And then I'd record over them.

As for the Walkman door problem? A trip out to the barn at Woodlyn Drive and checking out the shelves (top floor, right of the bedroom doorway) should be rewarding for spare parts.

I absolutely hate the way modern CD recordings are all cranked up to eleven. Fuck. That. Shit.
