Don't worry, Mrs Webber, I haven't forgotten my roots.

Yeah, I'm with Mrs Webber and her gun. They'll eat the garden, stem to stern, and all the tempting "alternative" discouragements you read about will not work. Do not encourage him/her, regardless of how cute!

I am a Kiwi, Wendy, the fear runs deep. Guns, sticks, stones, whatever can be found at hand. Though these ringtails are much nicer looking than the bushy tails that infest NZ.

I sense you softening, Haines. Stand firm! Just because they're cute...

(Actually, as you will have guessed, this is entirely bluster on my part. I ended up "compromising" with the family of ringtails that took up residence in our neighbours. If I left out old carrots and bruised apple bits between their nest and my garden, they'd get distracted, and wouldn't make it to the beautiful tomatoes in my garden. So in essence, I was feeding the possums. But in fact, I couldn't bring myself to poison the little beasties (though I wouldn't have thought twice about a family of squirrels in the attic. go figure.))
