Raccoon Crisis 2011

  My sister’s bedroom is one of those designed with the sloping ceiling, which also creates a space behind the wall/beneath the eaves of the house. This crawlspace is accessed through a three-foot-high Creepy Door. In this unlit, cramped space we store mostly old baby furniture.

And a raccoon.

I believe you have two little ones living in the house. Tie a rope around their waists, open the Creepy Door and toss them in. They should be able to explore all of the nooks and crannies inaccessible by adults. Instruct them to find all baby raccoons or they can't come out. Failing that, burn the house down.

Well, the reasoning was that it wasn't old enough to survive on its own it was possibly still young enough to be nursing), and since we clearly have several up there anyway, what difference was it going to make to have him back where he'd been? This way we don't have its death on our conscience.

But yeah, I did have a minute of "I can't believe I'm putting this raccoon BACK INTO MY ATTIC."

Mom was the one who left the water, apple slices, and towels up there so he'd be comfortable while he waited for raccoon-mommy to get him.
