Our parents went a little too far with the Tough Love thing. It was a known fact that as each one of my brothers and I graduated from high school, we were to move out and fly completely on our own. I was 17 years old.

Now I see it as a good thing, because all of us were totally on our own, and too busy for the good times, because we were trying to survive. My life line was joining the Army at 17 (with parents signature since I was underage), as it was for my other brother. The other three worked their way through college.

Perhaps the only solution is for you and your wife to give them some Tough Love.
