I once heard the saying that "religion is the opium of the masses". I believe it because like a drug, it can be destructive, addictive, deplete your finances and most of it all, it makes people say and do stupid things!

So the Goths gave us the Yulelog, huh? I would have thought that they invented the fruitcake. ;)
