Well, assuming I get some approvals to create this ritual, Pawel's more than willing to share with fellow Lancea. He wants start amassing favors, goodwill, and a reputation among the covenant. They are all assets that can help in a pinch.
As it in I've got someone down in Southern Arizona who wants me to shove their face in a burning bowl. It's going to be cool. :)
LOL.. Nothing more fun for me then being the one who got your face nearly burned off at ICC and then performing the ritual at EClipse and my character doesnt flinch at all.
I'm glad you guys like it. I'm hoping it gets approved. I spent too many years playing Castlevania games lobbing Crosses and Holy Water at baddies not to try something like this. :)
I'm not sure which is the best part:
- the look on someone's face when someone throws a dinky wooden cross at their feat only to have it detonate
- the first time you need to take it off someone and you get to dunk their head in a baptismal font
It reduces a character's ability to threaten others
The penalties seem instead to make the character more susceptible to threats by others rather than to diminish his or her own offensive capabilities. Perhaps leave the Defense alone, and apply the penalty only to those contested and resisted actions that are initiated by the target? That might make it clear that this isn't meant to be a "pre-beat-down" ritual.
? You mean to key it off of "who started it?" That's too complicated for a basic ritual, and not very accurate. A Nos deciding to Shatter the Mind isn't "attacking," nor is a Ventrue trying to mind-rape you. I want all styles of characters to have to re-assess their cost-benefit when it comes to sticking around and trying to retaliate against people. It should up the threat of getting your ass kicked if you don't book - otherwise it doesn't encourage you to quit the field
( ... )
One for the creation of the reliquary, one for the altercation to this ritual..
I would suggest altering it to require a previously made reliquary (so you can use the ones already on your sheet) that you spend a will to cast the Vessel of Fire ritual when you want to alter the reliquary to the Vessel.
So its still a 2 will activation, but may only end up being one the night of game.
That's what I thought I said when I wrote it. I don't think I specified that the Reliquary needs to be freshly minted, just that the Vessel you transform it into is only viable until sunrise. That's really the only practical way to apply it. You stock up on Reliquaries, then convert them into holy-water-bombs when it looks like trouble. :)
Indeed, I think your suggestion makes perfect sense.
