Onward Christian Soldier ... (Friday Night in Providence, Part II)

As she examines the picture of the text, she tells Pawel that politicians and the like are always doing these sorts of underhanded deals, shrouded behind scripted statements and legalese even as they line their pockets.

"That's why I became a lawyer in the first place," she says.

"Because you wanted your cut?"

The woman offers no denial.

Archbishop Asante calls to order the first official court of his reign. It is good to see such strong connections to organized crime within domain. It will make things easier. Elauwit offers his wisdom and it leaves one to wonder exactly what sort of understanding the Archbishop and the former chief have come to.

As the night moves on to less public matters, the infiltrator offers his information and recommendations to the Archbishop, who is pleased.

And there Antonitus is, with that particular look in his eye again. It is time, then. Luther comes as well, and grants Absolution to the Princes for the grim duty they must execute.

There is nothing quite so pitiable as the Sheep who is taken by madness and thinks himself a Lion ...

... And how the fuck did that guy see through Obfuscation, anyway?

It isn't a fight, but a slaughter. Pawel doesn't even have time to complete the Curse of Babel before the man lies battered and bleeding upon the floor. Before the mad, would-be protector of Rhode Island is slain, Pawel reaches back to his memories of a Catholic youth and and readies the mortal's soul to meet God.

What you have done, you did for love of Him and those Beloved by Him. Beyond the Veil of Death your ill mind will be whole and these mysteries you should not have beheld will no longer trouble your soul.

Surely the Lord shall hold you in the palm of His hand.

The Archbishop concludes the grim business with a deft stroke of the blade - quick and painless. Antonitus begins the regretfully necessary business of discrediting his work so that no more mortals may fall as he has done.

Go with God, yon Christian soldier.

By the Blood, how enviable is thy fate.
