It's difficult to have it both ways - either you're completely cut off (which includes not doing outside work, etc) or you're not. Once you're not, it's not a big stretch to go from outside work to outside socialization and goofing around.

It was worse when they had a PC (reminded me of wedgeterms) in the living room, which I promptly downloaded PuTTY onto IIRC.

I would be a hypocrite to say put them in the trunk of your car, but I do wonder if the laptop has a setting somewhere to turn off the wireless card signal. Mine has a nice convenient button for that (eg for airplanes).

On the other hand, I hope you successfully cut yourself off and are totally unable to read this suggestion.
