I was perfectly fine until my mother picked m up and took me to her house tonight. We passed I-84 and it hit me, tis the holiday season... the multiple car headlights were like a majestic red and white tree of little glass twinklers... it put a knot in my stomach

It's an amazingly powerful phrase if you take to heart it's true meaning. Do what you can now, while you have what you have, with whatever you want.

You're never bound but only by yourself and your thoughts towards your own life. If you only live once then take care of these precious moments. You only get each moment one at a time, and should make them the best moments of your life.

You're not a tool, just be empowered to know the right people and keep those who are close just close, and live. Just live.

The perfect people on TV make me wanna puke, too. That's why I make a superhuman effort to watch less of them from now till around Ground Hog's Day (you have to wait until the TV gets the after-holiday sales out of its system...). And I get out and do non-monetary things that I enjoy, by myself and/or with friends (free concerts/performance art; libraries, book groups, bike rides, the occasional political action). I also like to remind my loved ones that it's about hanging out together and not about gifts, which saves me the anguish of having to keep up appearances. All of this really helps alot, even if it alienates me from the dominant culture a little more.
If all of that fails, bake a bunch of stuff, give it away to total strangers downtown and watch them smile.
