Happy New Year!!!

:-)

Here's hoping everyone has a truly splendid 2009, healthy, happy, and hopeful, and that fandom continues to be filled with such awesome and wonderful people like all of you, Flist!!! ^_^

And so for this New Year's Day, I thought I'd share with you an absolutely lovely Birthday present I received (VERY unexpectedly and with incredible surprise and delight) on my birthday on the 28th, from talented artist and good friend, darkj3 !

It's a beautiful painting that stems from my ongoing JLA novella, "Necessary Force". It's illustrating a scene from Part 2, "Ex Hypothesi", set at the Watchtower on the moon, where Superman and Batman share a quiet moment of introspection, dialogue, and friendship amidst the growing tension of the looming crisis the Justice League has been struggling to cope with on the Earth below. (& Here's the written scene from the fic itself, if interested in comparing!) The gorgeous pic itself is pasted at the end of this post! Go admire!

I'm still so stunned by this marvellous gift that popped up in my e-mail that day, and I'm amazed at the scene's beauty and evocative imagery, and at how both Batman and Superman are so in-character, with the emotions they're each experiencing so telling. darkj3
did an absolutely fantastic job in depicting this moment from the story, and I'm still enormously thrilled that she did this for me! THANKS so very much, J! I love it to pieces! *beams* I've never had anything drawn specifically for me as a gift like this before, for something I've written!

J and I 'met' last year when we were both involved in the Superman/Batman e-book Christmas project helmed by tmelange , "The Greatest Gift", where an artist was assigned to illustrate a scene from a Christmas story written by an author for this cool e-book, and J did a gorgeous job with a scene of Superman frozen in a waterfall for my (quite lengthy) novella contribution, "The World in Solemn Stillness ...". (Lookee here for that image!) I was very lucky to get her!!! And now this, out of the blue surprise birthday present!! (wow!)

And I have no idea what I've done to deserve it. I don't, really. It's been so long since I even was able to update the story! However, that being said, I've worked when I can over the Christmas holiday, and I'm almost complete a new chapter, which I'll be posting before I head back to the coast (and, ugh, work) on the weekend. Certainly this art, along with Jen's ( jij ) (aka
mithen now, I believe) and DaMo's ( damos ) incredible gift of sending me a published book form of the first 8 parts of "NF" (!!!) for Christmas, (thanks so much, dear friends! I'm still floored!) is tremendous motivation for getting me back into writing this fic!!!! (I haven't lost interest, I promise, just energy and time due to a combo of my new (overly) demanding job and other RL trials) (and my thanks again to everyone who wished me a Happy Birthday,
carolandtom 's v-gift, bradygirl_12 's post, and for the awesome hurt/comfort drabble in the vein of "Necessary Force" from starsandsea !  You can find that Superman and Batman drabble, "Belief", right over Here!)

So, my sincerest thanks to darkj3, jij , and damos , as well as all of friends and amazingly patient and supportive readers! (& Part 14 will be up within the next 3 days!)

I wish you all a very, very Happy New Year!

And in the words of one of my favourite poets, Alfred, Lord Tennyson:
"Ring out the old, ring in the new,
Ring, happy bells, across the snow:
The year is going, let him go;
Ring out the false, ring in the true." Peace and cheer, Pax, Humbled Wolf :-) And here is J's lovely, lovely art! ^_^ (clicky clicky to enlarge!)

Isn't it beautiful?  Thank you so much, J!  :-)
