I was at a 4th of July party at the Naval Academy this afternoon, and there was a huge storm.  We all crowded under a pavillion for about an hour, and lightning struck twice within 300 yards or so. Afterwards, we went and looked at one of the trees that got hit. All the bark had been blown off it, and was up to 20 feet away. The tree was cracked

I can concur. Nature's own fireworks are so much better.
