Dell Computers: A Cautionary Tale

Aug 10, 2008 07:49

I haven't had a computer for months. Currently I'm at work, playing the odds that they won't sweep what I've been doing on a Sunday shift. But this is a public service...

I've been biting my internet tongue on this one for WAY too long. )

Oh, baybee!

*pets you*

*joins you in the Vista hate*

I'm so glad to hear from you! Like you, I've been having sporadic system failures over the last few years, and we seem to not be online at the same times! I got a new computer, but my friend who advised me said not to get Dell (although, he did advise the Dell flat-screen monitor, which I got along with my emachine computer).

Hope to see you back online on a regular basis SOON!!!

Switching to Mac because of problems with Dell is like giving up cars and switching to bikes because of a problem and poor customer service with a Chevrolet.

You've convinced me never to buy Dell (my daughter needs a new laptop, and I might have gone the Dell route for that if the deal had looked good enough) so you can die happy anyway.

I recommend Hewlett Packard. They had a bad patch immediately after buying Compaq, but that cleared up after they sacked the woman who had made that stupid decision, and they're back up to their former standard.

Vista is actually great - but only if you have 2 Gb of RAM or more.

The problem is, there are few laptop choices out there. My dad and I looked for ages. If you are willing to spend an arm and a leg, then there are more lap top options, but in my price range there are fewer. Dell, Mac, Compaq, Toshiba (not a fan of their newer computers), and HP. I haven't head terribly great things about HP, but perhaps they are getting better. A deciding factor for me is that every person I know who has had to call Mac customer service has had no problems. I'd say its more like switching to one of theose cars wioth the spedometer in a weird place and the e-brake under the wheel instead of between the seats :)
