Personally, I think that is the kind of relationship with no downside. It's not like you'll ever be sitting with that particular female wondering where the love went or wondering if she is looking at somebody else's Kibbles N Bits out of the corner of her eye.

That's all true, and dogs are wonderful for providing unconditional love every minute of their lives, but the downsides are fairly meaningful to me: greater expensive (dogs are a bit more expensive than cats to maintain), logistical complications (Daisy is a trail dog, Mina is not...not yet at least), mess around the house (Mina sheds yellow fur everywhere, less so now that she's less stressed out), getting along with the cats (she's an inveterate chaser). The biggest one is that I now have to divide my attentions between the two girls. Is it fair that Daisy's affection time be cut in half? Is the benefit to her life of having a dog buddy greater than the loss of human contact time?

This is true...every pet is not for every house.
They are pack animals, but the beagle does seem to like to hang out with you.
Well, I wish I knew someone in the market for a young dog, then.
