Piggy Eulogy, 1999

The Dad I remember from long ago poked his head out and said "Hi" today...

I got an email before leaving work with the subject "A little something..."

Attached was the poem eulogy I wrote for our first guinea pigs when I was 14. I buried them under my favorite crab apple tree in the backyard. That was the prettiest damn tree...

Dawn & Midnight

1991-1999    1991-1998

Under this grand, majestic tree
Lie two who were quite dear to me
And thus I write this eulogy.

I’ve lain here often in the shade
And under here good prayers I’ve made
So for the Dawn, the sun will rise
With fiery hues midst robin cries.
And at Midnight, the moon will glimmer
Amid silvery stars that twinkle and shimmer.
We’ve loved you both with all our heart
And now we must fulfill our part
By wishing you a sad goodbye
As you recede into the sky.

May these words guard your remains,
Our love for you our heart retains,
Though you’ve been first to ascend
My pets, I’m sure we’ll meet again.

This was written back in the day when I thought I had talent. Clearly you see why I don't write anymore, haha.

I thought Dad had just found this among old computer files or something -- the computer I wrote that on is long, long gone. It was our first machine ever, a Sony VAIO, Windows 95. So I emailed him a thank you, I mean...I hadn't seen that thing in forever, not since Dad ironed it onto some wood and made a little headstone for them.

And he said: "I've always kept it. I thought it was very sweet."

And for some reason, I can't look at that and not get all misty and warm fuzzy... *sniff*

My Dad is so awesome. He always thought I should be a writer...maybe I should have tried harder and not given up when I met people who could really lay pen to paper.
