You know, I wonder if, when Newt fires all the school janitors, their kids would be considered poor enough to do for pocket change the job their parent used to do to earn a living? And why, in this time of massive unemployment, all the re-thugs are so thrilled with an idea that only puts even more people out of work?

He's not trying to fire janitors. He's putting forth a crazy idea in a way that lets people whomp on him, while he and his supporters can get all angry that liberals are:
1) defending the unions, OF COURSE, and
2) dissing the idea of people earning money OF COURSE, and
3) attacking the idea of kids learning responsibility OF COURSE and
4) attacking poor, poor Newt for bringing up good ideas.

It's really cunning. It's not likely to work.
