so i am filling out my application and am on the section about drugs and alcohol. i am not into drugs or anything like that but i did get an underage drinking ticket when i was 20 (now 23). do i need to report that? i just plead guilty and paid the ticket fine. specifically the questions i am concerned with are : 1. In answer to your "do I need to report that" part of the question: Yes, unless your record was expunged/sealed by a judge, you absolutely need to report it. They'll find out about it anyway when the do the background check.

As far as whether or not it will hurt you... it would hurt you more to try to hide it. If you lie and say that were never convicted of a crime, it's grounds for automatic disqualification. If you tell the truth, they'll probably ask you some questions about the incident, what the circumstances were, what you learned from it, etc, and then go from there.

I second the previous comment. If you don't know what section 404 is, then contact someone and ask. Be up front about why you are asking.

Just be honest about it. At age 20, you were a legal adult and it would still be on your record. They're going to do a background check and if you say no on the application, they're going to find out that you lied and dismiss your application immediately. It is best to be truthful about any offense you have committed. It shows that you hold yourself accountable for your actions and admitting the negative things can be turned into a positive situation as you go forward into accomplishing your life goals.
